Ricco
Residence
Woodstock, New York
New three bedroom residence including
offices, studio, and solarium.
3,300 sq. ft.
1994
Site
To repair damage from an old gravel pit, the house was
placed at the rear of a 10-acre meadow surrounded by stonewalls
and mature forest. The barreled roofs and soft colors suggest
a careful fit with the dramatic Catskill Mountain site.
Building
The house was designed as a home as well as therapist’s
office, painting studio, and upstate gallery for a New York
City artist and gallery owner. The Ricco residence attempts
to marry urban sensibilities and working lives with passion
for the outdoors and the need for a quiet retreat. These are
achieved through the large soaring spaces, much stone and
concrete tile, and simple elegant shapes.
Materials
Wood frame and poured concrete walls, stucco exteriors,
terrazzo and tile floors, concrete countertops, lacquered
MDF cabinetry, Hypalon and metal roofing.
